Houndshow Championship Show 2016 Critique

Thank you to the committee for asking me to judge this show which is the Deerhound Club’s Championship show. Thank you to all the exhibitors who brought their hounds under me for assessment. I found some lovely hounds which were a pleasure to go over. Most of the exhibits were fit and in good order. All mouths were good but movement could certainly be improved.  I enjoyed my day .

I preferred this  dog to  no 1 in essence, lovely head and expression, strong neck good deep body, A lovely type but he lost out to no 1 on movement. He needs to tighten up in his rear and settle on the move.

OPEN DOG 5 entries 2 absent

1ST FAIRCLOTH  Beardswood Ripley For Calbraidh
Tall dog with nice head Nice ears eyes and strong in the neck which could be longer. Rather short in body could do with more angles behind, but he is superb on the move coming and going very sound. and this won him his placing.  Res CC

2nd MACBEAN'S  Killoeter Ruaig
This is a really nice correct dog under a rather thick coat. Although deerhounds should not be trimmed in this case some attention could make the difference. The coat makes him look far too heavy and coarse which he is not. He moves very soundly is true back and forth but he is lazy and maybe a stronger handler would help him show himself to his full potential.

3rd GIRLING'S Pyefleet Tarka
